Diplo, the DJ and producer of hits like “Sorry,” “Rockstar,” and “This Is What You Came For,” has been accused of assault and sexual battery by an ex-girlfriend who says he gave her an STD and then asked her for money.
“It was a nightmare,” Lisa Sanchez, the 28-year-old woman told The Daily Beast. “I think it was about a year after we broke up, but I never really spoke up about it. She told me she’d never had sex with him again but was pregnant with his child. I didn’t even want to hear it because it felt like I knew I’d have to raise this child all by myself. But I kept asking questions and started getting more and more uncomfortable.”
Sanchez alleges that after she became pregnant, Diplo began pressuring her to have an abortion. When she declined, she says, he told her that “as long as I took care of him, I’d get paid.”
In 2016, Sanchez said, she learned that Diplo had given her herpes, which was later confirmed by a doctor. He also allegedly gave her other STD-like infections and the marks he left on her body. When she confronted him about his alleged behavior, she says, Diplo denied having herpes, and claimed to know that Sanchez was pregnant. Then, she alleged, he demanded that she pay him $10,000 in cash for “dirty laundry” that he claimed he would “expose.”
The couple parted ways in 2017, and she eventually sued Diplo and then her lawyers have since been replaced by the same lawyers. “It’s a big lawsuit,” she said. “It’s a combination of negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, assault, battery, a malicious lawsuit, things like that.”
A representative for Diplo, who appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this week, has not responded to a request for comment on the new accusations.
